Jetpack Joyride has finally arrived on Android

Jetpack Joyride, the hugely popular game from Halfbrick Studios, finally arrived on Android today, nearly a year after launching on iOS. For now, the game is only available through the Amazon App Store, meaning Android users will have to first download Amazon's App Store app. It's also worth mentioning that if you delete Amazon's app after downloading Jetpack Joyride, you'll no longer be able to play the game. As of yet, there's no word on when the app may arrive on Google Play.

Nevertheless, today's arrival has been a long time coming for Jetpack Joyride, which was released on Facebook earlier this year, and will be coming to Blackberry 10 and the PlayBook, as well. It's not clear whether Halfbrick will release a tablet-optimized version of the game anytime soon, though Android Police reports that the app will run on a Transformer Pad 300, albeit with slightly "blocky" graphics. By the way, you can buy cheap Jetpack Joyride Items from z2u.com, where you can enjoy a 3% discount by using the code “Z2U”.

Jetpack Joyride is another entry in the one-tap, get-as-far-as-you-can genre of games, similar to Monster Dash except that there isn't a separate "shoot" button. You just tap anywhere on the screen to turn on the jetpack, firing down at the ground and lifting off into the air. As with Monster Dash and Canabalt, the further you go the faster you go. You dodge electric zappers that float in the air (some rotating), plus missiles that enter from the right side of the screen, and occasional lasers that appear.

There's a whole layer of achievements and missions on top of the game, too. Throughout the game you can collect Spin Tokens, which give you a spin on the jackpot after you die. The prizes range from an extra life (putting you back in the game) to bombs that blast the knocked-out Barry just a little bit further along. You can also collect coins, or a Head Start which gives you a 750m boost at the start of your next game.
