KartRider: Drift is coming to Xbox One and PC

Announced at Microsoft’s X019 event in London, KartRider: Drift expands on 2004’s original KartRider, which has seen huge popularity in Asia but has not found a wide release here in the West. From today, players can head over to the game’s website to sign up for the KartRider: Drift closed beta, which will run from December 5th-8th, and will test the game’s cross-platform multiplayer features.

The mainly puzzling thing was that Microsoft kept referring to the series as "iconic." Kartrider is likely well known to a certain group of people, but this is the first time anyone in America is actually learning of the game. Maybe this is a nitpick, but that doesn't really scream "legendary" or "well-known."

At any rate, going free is a solid way to get people trying this out. Microsoft previously released some free games for Xbox Live Gold members eons ago, but both it and Sony have focused more on giving out triple-A and indie releases through their respective subscriptions instead of original content. Nintendo definitely has issues with its own service, but it's the only place you'll be playing Tetris 99. KartRider: Drift will have three modes which include a speed mode which is competitive and features drifting challenges, a time attack mode, and an item mode. The karts will have a number of customization options so players can personalise their looks. There will be seasonal updates throughout the life of the game.

A closed beta for KartRider: Drift and its cross-platform capabilities is planned for December 6, 2019. The closed beta will give players a chance to try three modes and to play cross-platform. Meant to players the ability to express themselves through customisation and cosmetics, KartRider allows for custom karts and characters.
